Educational Qualifications
Qualifications vary according to the position. Applicants may require one or more of the following:
- Four-year degree in Agriculture, Landscape Architecture, Botany or a related field.
- Recognized bachelor’s degree with relevant professional experience.
- National Diploma in Technology, Higher National Diploma or an approved technical diploma.
- G.C.E. Advanced Level passes in Biological Science, Physical Science or Technology streams.
- G.C.E. Ordinary Level and Advanced Level qualifications for Management Assistant positions.
- NVQ Level 4 qualification for Mechanic, Machinist, Carpenter and Plumber positions.
- NVQ Level 2 or 3 or relevant working experience for Laboratory Attendant and Nurseryman posts.
- G.C.E. Ordinary Level or having sat for the examination for selected primary-level positions.

The advertised salary scales are stated as applicable from 01 January 2027. Government-approved allowances may also be payable.
Age Limits
- Farm Manager and Curator: Not more than 60 years.
- Career Guidance Counsellor: 22–45 years.
- Marshal: 30–45 years.
- Management Assistant positions: 18–30 years.
- Most technical and primary-level positions: 18–45 years or not more than 45 years.
Selection Method
Depending on the position and number of applications received, selection may include a written examination, structured interview, trade test, practical test or a combination of these selection methods. Only shortlisted applicants will be called for the relevant assessment.
Common Requirements
- Applicants must be citizens of Sri Lanka.
- Applicants must be physically and mentally fit to perform the duties of the position.
- Applicants should be able to serve in any part of Sri Lanka when required.
- Applicants must possess excellent moral character.
Application Fee
Each applicant must pay a non-refundable application fee of Rs. 1,000 for each submission using the relevant application reference number. Payments made to an incorrect account or without the relevant reference number may not be accepted.
