SLBFE Scholarship Application 2026 for Children of Migrant Workers
Applications are invited for the SLBFE Scholarship Programme 2026 for eligible children of Sri Lankan migrant workers who are registered with the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE).
Eligible students under the Grade 5 Scholarship, G.C.E. O/L and G.C.E. A/L categories can submit their applications online before the closing date.

Who Can Apply for the SLBFE Scholarship 2026?
The scholarship programme is available for eligible students whose mother or father has been registered with the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment and employed abroad, subject to the specific conditions applicable to each scholarship category.
1. Grade 5 Scholarship – Eligibility
- The applicant's mother or father must have been registered with the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) and employed abroad during the period 10 August 2020 to 10 August 2025.
- The applicant must have passed the Grade 5 Scholarship Examination held in 2025 and obtained the relevant district cut-off mark.

2. G.C.E. O/L Scholarship – Eligibility
- The applicant's mother or father must have been registered with the SLBFE and employed abroad during the period 17 March 2020 to 17 March 2025.
- Applicants must have passed at least six (06) subjects, including Mathematics, at the G.C.E. O/L Examination relevant to the year 2024 (2025).
- Applicants must also be currently studying for the G.C.E. A/L Examination, subject to the conditions specified in the official scholarship notice.

3. G.C.E. A/L Scholarship – Eligibility
- The applicant's mother or father must have been registered with the SLBFE between 25 November 2019 and 25 November 2024 and must be employed abroad.
- The applicant must have passed the G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination relevant to the year 2024.
- The applicant must be either:
- Following a full-time degree programme at a government university; or
- Following a degree at a private university recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC); or
- Following a diploma course of more than two years' duration at a National Technical College or another government educational institution.

How to Apply for SLBFE Scholarship 2026 Online

Prepare clear PDF copies of all documents relevant to your category. The online portal currently specifies PDF uploads with a maximum file size of 2 MB for each required document. - Open the online application.

Choose the correct scholarship category from the application form. - Enter applicant details.
Enter the applicant's name, date of birth, address, district, Divisional Secretariat division, NIC/Postal Identity Number and contact information. - Enter migrant worker details.
Provide the mother/father or guardian's passport number, Sri Lankan NIC number, relationship and country of employment. - Enter examination details.
Provide the requested examination, school, marks, index number and higher-education information applicable to your scholarship category. - Upload all required documents.
Make sure the uploaded documents are clear, complete and relate to the selected scholarship category. - Submit the application and save your Reference Number.
After successfully completing the online application, keep the reference number safely. - Send the required certified documents by registered post.
Write the online application Reference Number clearly in the top-right corner of every document before posting them.
Important Online Application Notes
- The SLBFE online portal requests information to be entered using English characters only.
- Check all names, NIC numbers, passport numbers and examination index numbers carefully before submission.
- Upload clear PDF files and make sure all mandatory documents have been attached.
- Do not lose your application Reference Number.

Certification of Documents
According to the official instructions, the required photocopies should be properly certified. Depending on the category, certification may be obtained from the Principal of the school, a Justice of the Peace, or the Registrar of the relevant educational institution, as applicable.
Applications without the required documents or applications that do not satisfy the specified eligibility conditions may be rejected. Applicants should therefore complete both the online application and the required document-submission process before the deadline.
The official notice also states that an applicant may apply for a scholarship under the same category only once.
