The Department of Examinations, Sri Lanka has announced the practical examination dates for the G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination 2026. According to the official notice, the first practical examinations will commence on 24 September 2026.
Candidates who sat the written examination for subjects that include a practical component should carefully check the 2026 A/L Practical Examination schedule, obtain their admission card and attend the practical test on the exact date and at the examination centre assigned to them.
Practical examinations are scheduled for Dancing, Music, Drama and Theatre, Engineering Technology, Home Economics and Biosystems Technology. The examination period differs depending on the subject. Therefore, candidates should not rely only on the general date range shown below. The individual date, session and examination centre shown on the candidate's admission card should be followed.

The dates above are the overall periods allocated for each subject. Your individual practical examination date and examination centre will be stated on your admission card. Candidates should attend on the assigned date rather than selecting a date from the above period themselves.

School Candidates:
Practical examination admission cards are sent to the relevant school principals.
Private Candidates:
Admission cards are sent to the postal address entered in the candidate's examination application.
Online Admission Card:
The Department has stated that facilities will also be made available through its official website for candidates to obtain the practical examination admission card approximately 7 days before the commencement of the relevant practical examination.

Who Must Sit the A/L Practical Examination?
Candidates who appeared for the written examination in the relevant subjects with a practical component are required to attend the practical examination. These include subject numbers 28, 52, 53, 54, 55, 56, 57, 58, 59, 65 and 66.
