About the Manager – Reconciliation Position
The Manager – Reconciliation will be responsible for establishing and maintaining a strong bank-wide reconciliation governance framework. The position covers General Ledger maintenance, reconciliation of accounts, internal controls, regulatory compliance, risk management and financial reporting accuracy.
The selected professional is expected to coordinate reconciliation activities across departments, branches and business units while ensuring that reconciliation procedures, reporting standards and controls are properly implemented throughout the Bank.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Bank-wide Reconciliation Governance
- Develop, implement and periodically review the Bank-wide Reconciliation Policy.
- Establish reconciliation standards applicable across departments, branches and business units.
- Develop reconciliation procedures, operating manuals and standard operating procedures.
- Maintain consistency in reconciliation practices throughout the Bank.
- Develop reconciliation templates and appropriate reporting formats.
- Monitor compliance with reconciliation timelines.
2. General Ledger Maintenance Governance
- Oversee governance relating to General Ledger maintenance activities.
- Supervise controls relating to GL account creation, modification and closure.
- Oversee reference and effective-date maintenance with relevant approvals.
- Develop and maintain standard procedures for General Ledger maintenance functions.
- Review dormant and inactive General Ledger accounts.
- Recommend closure of obsolete GL accounts where appropriate.
- Ensure proper documentation is maintained for GL-related activities.
3. Monitoring Outstanding Reconciliation Items
- Monitor the ageing of outstanding reconciliation differences.
- Establish criteria for identifying long outstanding items.
- Identify the root causes of reconciliation differences.
- Coordinate with relevant departments to resolve outstanding items.
- Escalate unresolved matters to senior management when required.
- Maintain reconciliation ageing reports.
- Monitor write-off proposals where applicable.
4. Regulatory Compliance
The Manager will be expected to ensure reconciliation-related activities comply with applicable regulatory and accounting requirements, including Central Bank requirements, accounting standards such as SLFRS, LKAS and IFRS, audit recommendations, internal policies, procedures and the Bank’s risk management and compliance framework.
5. Management Information and Reporting
Responsibilities include preparing periodic reconciliation reports covering reconciliation status, outstanding balances, long-outstanding items, high-risk accounts, ageing analysis, exceptions and key reconciliation indicators.
The position may also require the preparation of policy-compliance information, monthly dashboards and reports for management and relevant Board-level committees.
6. Stakeholder Coordination
The successful candidate will coordinate with relevant departments, business units, the branch network, Internal Audit, Risk Management and Compliance functions and assist in facilitating regulatory examinations.
7. Automation and Continuous Improvement
- Promote automation of reconciliation processes.
- Support improvements to reconciliation systems.
- Participate in relevant system-development projects.
- Develop useful reconciliation dashboards and management information tools.
8. Team Leadership
- Lead the Reconciliation Unit.
- Allocate reconciliation responsibilities among relevant team members.
- Provide technical guidance.
- Conduct reconciliation-related training programmes.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants should be citizens of Sri Lanka.
Educational and Professional Qualifications
Applicants should possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Banking, Finance or Accounting from a university or degree-awarding institution recognized by the University Grants Commission of Sri Lanka.
Applicants should be fully or partly qualified with a recognized professional accounting body, such as:
- CA
- ACCA
- CIMA
Experience Requirements
- Applicants should possess at least 10 years of experience in banking or finance.
- Strong knowledge of banking operations, General Ledger management, reconciliation processes and regulatory requirements is expected.
- Experience in developing banking policies, internal-control frameworks or governance arrangements will be an added advantage.
- Applicants should have strong analytical and report-writing abilities.
- Good stakeholder-management skills and knowledge of information systems are expected.
Age Requirement
