Sri Lanka Teachers’ Service Third EB Examination 2026
The Third Efficiency Bar Examination of the Sri Lanka Teachers’ Service – 2026 is applicable to relevant officers of the Sri Lanka Teachers’ Service and teachers serving under the applicable Provincial Public Service teacher service provisions.
The examination is conducted in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Sri Lanka Teachers’ Service Minute and its amendments. The official Gazette states that the examination will be held in December 2026.

Who Can Apply?
The Gazette states that the examination is for relevant officers of the Sri Lanka Teachers’ Service and teachers of the applicable Provincial Public Services.
Officers promoted to Class 2 Grade I are required to complete the Third Efficiency Bar examination requirement within the period specified in the Teachers’ Service provisions.
Officers who have exceeded four years after promotion to Class 2 Grade I, as well as certain officers receiving Grade I promotions after 30 June 2025, are also subject to the Third Efficiency Bar examination requirement as specified in the Gazette.
How to Apply Online
The application for the Sri Lanka Teachers’ Service Third Efficiency Bar Examination 2026 must be submitted online through the Department of Examinations.
The online application is available under the Department of Examinations online application system for Recruitment / E.B. Examinations.
The application must be completed in English. Applicants are advised to download and read the instructions before completing the application.
Application Instructions

- Incomplete applications may be rejected without notice.
Examination Fee
No fee is charged because this Efficiency Bar Examination is being conducted for the first time.

Paper I – Subject Knowledge I
Paper I is a multiple-choice question paper containing 40 questions. The duration is 1 hour and the paper carries 40 marks.
Paper II – Subject Knowledge II
Paper II consists of four semi-structured questions. The duration is 2 hours and the paper carries 60 marks.
Candidates are required to answer all questions in both papers.

Teachers can access the official e-thaksalawa learning portal for the relevant self-study modules and learning resources.
Pass Mark
Combined total of Paper I and Paper II
According to the Gazette, candidates must obtain a combined total of 40% or more from the marks of Paper I and Paper II to achieve the required pass standard.
Examination Medium
The examination will be conducted in:
Candidates may sit the examination in the medium applicable to their appointment subject or in a State language as permitted by the Gazette.
The selected language medium cannot be changed later, and all question papers must be answered in the same medium.
Examination Centres
The examination will be conducted at examination centres established in the cities specified in Schedule I of the Gazette.
The city selected in the application cannot subsequently be changed.
If there are insufficient applicants to establish an examination centre in a selected city, applicants may be assigned to their second-preference city or another nearby city.
If sufficient applicants are not available to establish examination centres in most or all proposed cities, the Commissioner-General of Examinations may arrange the examination in Colombo only.

Identity Documents Required
Candidates must establish their identity at the examination hall. The Gazette specifies the following documents as valid identity documents:
- National Identity Card
- Valid Passport
- Valid Sri Lankan Driving Licence
Candidates must comply with the examination hall identity-verification requirements stated in the Gazette.
Admission Cards
Eligible candidates who submit correctly completed applications by the closing date will receive examination admission cards online.
The Department of Examinations will notify applicants when admission cards are issued. Candidates should carefully check the information on the admission card and contact the Department of Examinations in advance if corrections are required.
The signature on the admission card must be certified by the relevant Zonal Education Director or an authorized officer as specified in the Gazette.
Examination Results
The results of candidates appearing for the examination will be forwarded by the Commissioner-General of Examinations to the Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education according to the relevant provincial arrangements.
The Department of Examinations will also provide an opportunity for candidates to download their examination results. The downloaded result document should be submitted to the relevant Zonal Education Director for verification as required.
The verified results will be used by the relevant education authorities for matters including confirmation of appointment and grade promotion in accordance with the applicable provisions.
