Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) has invited applications from suitably qualified Sri Lankan citizens for the post of Legal Officer on a part-time assignment basis. The selected candidate will provide legal assistance to the Head of the Legal Unit of the Sri Lanka Medical Council.

Required Educational & Professional Qualifications
- Applicants should have been sworn in as an Attorney-at-Law (AAL) in the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka.
- Possession of a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree recognized by the University Grants Commission, or any other postgraduate qualification, will be considered an added qualification.
Required Experience
Applicants should satisfy one of the following relevant experience requirements:
- At least three (03) years of active professional and prosecutorial experience after being sworn in as an Attorney-at-Law of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka.
- OR at least three (03) years of experience in a legal post involving the conducting of prosecutions in a state institution after being sworn in as an Attorney-at-Law of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka.
Physical Qualifications
Every candidate should be physically and mentally fit to perform the duties associated with the post of Legal Officer.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Prosecution of disciplinary inquiries, including leading evidence, cross-examination, re-examination and filing of closing submissions.
- Assisting in legal and legislative matters connected with the Sri Lanka Medical Council under the guidance of the Head of the Legal Unit.
- Handling Right to Information (RTI) applications and complaints received by the Sri Lanka Medical Council.
- Attending to general correspondence assigned by the Head of the Legal Unit.
- Performing any other duties assigned by the Head of the Legal Unit.
Method of Recruitment
Recruitment will be based on an eligibility assessment interview. Candidates who have fulfilled the required qualifications will be assessed by an interview board appointed by the Sri Lanka Medical Council.
The applicant obtaining the highest marks according to the approved assessment scheme will be considered for recruitment to the vacancy.
Terms of Employment
The appointment will initially be made on a part-time assignment basis for one year.
The assignment may be extended for another year subject to the approval of the Sri Lanka Medical Council.
The responsibilities and Terms of Reference relating to the position will be provided to the selected candidate.
The selected candidate will be required to report for duty for two days per week during the Council's working hours, for a maximum of eight days per month.
Salary
The salary and other applicable emoluments will be determined by the Sri Lanka Medical Council.
