The Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education has released the official Gazette notification for the admission of student teachers to the National College of Education on Technology, Kuliyapitiya to follow a Four-Year Pre-Service Bachelor of Education Degree Course in English Medium, based on the 2024 G.C.E. Advanced Level results.

Basic Eligibility
- Applicant must be a citizen of Sri Lanka.
- Applicant must have good character and good physical and mental health.
- Age should not be more than 25 years as at 01.01.2026.
- Applicant must be unmarried.
- Must have passed three main subjects in one sitting at G.C.E. A/L 2024.
- Must have passed G.C.E. O/L with required subjects including Mathematics, medium language and English / English Literature as mentioned in the Gazette.
Course Qualification Summary
01. Engineering Technology
Applicants must have passed relevant A/L Technology stream subjects, or Physical Science stream subjects, or other accepted subject combinations including Mathematics / Advanced Mathematics and Physics as mentioned in the Gazette.
02. Bio-Systems Technology
Applicants must have passed relevant A/L Technology stream subjects, or Biological Science stream subjects, or other accepted subject combinations including Biology, Physics, Agriculture or Chemistry as mentioned in the Gazette.
03. Information Technology
Applicants must have passed Information and Communication Technology as a main subject with any two other A/L subjects in one sitting. Selection priority will be based on ICT proficiency and marks.
Selection Method
Selection will be made based on the applicant’s qualifications, Z-score order, district basis and national basis vacancies. 50% of vacancies will be filled on national basis and the remaining 50% on district basis. Applicants called for interviews must also face a practical test, where physical and mental suitability for the teaching profession will be assessed.
Important Conditions
- The course duration is 04 years.
- 03 years will be residential institutional training.
- 01 year will be internship training attached to a school and technical institution.
- Meals and lodging facilities / allowance of Rs. 10,500 per month will be provided as stated in the Gazette.
- Selected student teachers must sign a bond and agreement worth Rs. 1,500,000.
- After successfully completing the degree, appointments will be given as teachers in government schools.
- Applicants must agree to serve according to Ministry of Education conditions.
