Ministry of Transport Vacancies 2026 – Overview
The Ministry of Transport, Highways and Urban Development has announced new recruitment opportunities for the Badulla–Chenkaladi Road Improvement Project (BCRIP) and the Inclusive Connectivity and Development Project (ICDP).
These appointments are subject to the provisions of Management Services Circular No. 02/2026 issued by the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development. Vacancies are available for engineering, environmental, social safeguard, information technology, accounts, management and office-support positions.

Qualifications & Experience
Qualifications and experience for these posts are determined according to Management Services Circular No. 02/2026. Applicants should carefully check the requirements applicable to the selected salary category before submitting an application.
Project Director – Category A
Applicants should possess the relevant academic/professional qualifications and senior-level managerial experience required for a Project Director under Category A of Management Services Circular No. 02/2026.
Deputy Project Director – Category B
One recognised route includes a relevant Bachelor's Degree together with a relevant Master's Degree / Associate Membership / similar recognised professional qualification.
Under the applicable project category, relevant managerial experience is also required. Alternative qualification routes for professional-body members and eligible Government All-Island Service officers are provided in Circular No. 02/2026.
Senior Engineer – Category C
Relevant engineering degree/professional qualifications together with the prescribed managerial-level experience are required. Alternative professional and Government-service qualification routes are available under the circular.
Project Engineer I / II / III – Category D
- Engineer I: Relevant degree/equivalent qualification and recognised professional membership with the prescribed experience.
- Engineer II: Relevant degree/equivalent qualification and professional membership with a lower prescribed experience requirement than Engineer I.
- Engineer III: Relevant degree/equivalent qualification together with the required professional membership.
Environmental Officer / Social Safeguard Officer
Applicants must satisfy the relevant Category F educational/professional qualification and experience requirements specified in Management Services Circular No. 02/2026 for the respective field.
Management Assistant – MN 2-2025
- Pass G.C.E. O/L in six subjects with four Credit passes including Language and Mathematics plus two other subjects in one sitting.
- Pass the G.C.E. A/L Examination in one sitting.
Accounts Assistant – MN 2 / MN 4
Applicants may be considered under the applicable MN 2 or MN 4 qualification route. These generally include relevant G.C.E. A/L / accounting qualifications or a relevant recognised degree together with the experience required under the applicable circular.
Office Aid – PL 1-2025
Applicants should have passed the G.C.E. O/L Examination in six subjects with at least two Credit passes in not more than two sittings.

- Appointments are project-based / contract appointments.
- Selection is generally carried out through a structured interview and other applicable circular provisions.
- Applicants should be willing to serve at locations required by the project.
- A separate application should be submitted for each post when applying for more than one vacancy.
- Government and Semi-Government employees should follow the applicable procedure through the Head of their institution.
- Copies of relevant educational, professional and experience certificates should be attached where required.
