Open Competitive Examination
The Open Competitive Examination is intended for eligible Sri Lankan citizens who satisfy the educational, age, physical and other requirements stated in the official Gazette.
- Open to eligible external applicants.
- Applicants must meet all qualifications by the closing date.
- Selected applicants must be willing to serve in any part of Sri Lanka.

Limited Competitive Examination
The Limited Competitive Examination is mainly for eligible permanent employees of the Department of Meteorology who meet the required service and educational qualifications.
- Applicants should have passed six subjects at the G.C.E. Ordinary Level examination in not more than two sittings.
- Credit passes are required for Language or Literature, Mathematics and Science.
- The Gazette specifies the required permanent and satisfactory service experience.
- Departmental applicants must submit the required certified documents when requested.
