Ministry of Ports and Civil Aviation – Contract Basis Recruitment

The Merchant Shipping Secretariat under the Ministry of Ports and Civil Aviation has invited applications from qualified Sri Lankan citizens for the post of Examiner (Engineering) on a contract basis for the year 2026.

Required Qualifications

Applicants must possess a Chief Engineer Certificate of Competency issued by a recognized Maritime Administration of Sri Lanka or approved foreign countries.

In addition, candidates must have:

• Minimum 2 years of experience as a Chief Engineer.
• Experience on ocean-going merchant vessels with a main engine capacity exceeding 3000 kW.
• Sri Lankan Citizenship.
• Excellent character and professional conduct.
• Physical and mental fitness required to perform duties.

Salary and Benefits

Selection Method

Selection will be based on a Structured Interview conducted by a panel appointed by the Public Service Commission. The candidate obtaining the highest marks will be selected for appointment.

Additional Marks Will Be Awarded For

• Postgraduate qualifications related to Marine Engineering.
• Professional courses in maritime law, maritime inspections, investigations and safety.
• Additional work experience beyond the minimum requirement.
• Research publications or recognized innovations.
• Computer and IT-related qualifications relevant to maritime engineering.
