Educational Qualifications
Applicants should have passed the G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination in one sitting in three subjects selected from:
- Combined Mathematics
- Higher Mathematics
- Physics
- Chemistry
- Biology
- Agriculture
The three subjects must include Physics and Combined Mathematics or Higher Mathematics.
Under the old syllabus, applicants should have passed three subjects in one sitting, including Physics and Applied Mathematics or Pure Mathematics.
Applicants must also have passed the G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination in six subjects in one sitting, including credit passes for:
- Language
- Mathematics
- Science
- One other subject
Age Limit
Applicants should be between 18 and 30 years of age as at the application closing date.
- Applicants should have been born on or before 04 September 2008.
- Applicants should have been born on or after 04 September 1996.
- The maximum age limit does not apply to eligible applicants already serving in the Public Service.
Other Qualifications
- Must be a citizen of Sri Lanka.
- Must possess good character.
- Must be physically and mentally fit to perform the duties of the post.

Recruitment and Training
Eligible applicants must pass the open competitive examination conducted by the Department of Examinations.
Selected candidates will undergo approximately two years of theoretical and practical training. Candidates who successfully complete the training and obtain the required competency certification will be eligible for appointment to Class III of the relevant post.
Candidates are required to obtain at least 40% marks in each examination subject.

1. Intelligence Test
The Intelligence Test consists of approximately 50 multiple-choice and short-answer questions designed to assess logical reasoning, thinking ability, analytical skills and decision-making ability.
2. Technical Paper
The Technical Paper assesses knowledge relating to the measurement of physical quantities and practical physics. Knowledge equivalent to the G.C.E. Advanced Level standard is considered sufficient.
Examination Medium
The examination will be conducted in:
- Sinhala
- Tamil
- English
The examination medium selected in the application cannot be changed later, and all papers must be answered in the selected medium.
