About the OUSL Diploma in Food Science
The Diploma in Food Science at The Open University of Sri Lanka is designed to provide students with fundamental knowledge and practical understanding of food science and its applications in the food industry. The programme is suitable for school leavers as well as people working in, or planning to enter, food and food-related industries.
The programme covers important areas such as food chemistry, biology, microbiology, food spoilage, food preservation and processing, quality assurance, laboratory work, mathematics, statistics and modern applications within the food industry.
Entry Qualifications
Applicants may be eligible through qualifications including:
- Three passes at G.C.E. Advanced Level in the Science stream with Chemistry; or
- Relevant Foundation / Advanced Certificate in Science qualifications offered by OUSL; or
- Three passes at G.C.E. Advanced Level in the Technology stream with Biosystems Technology; or
- Relevant qualifications and/or experience in the food or food-related industry subject to OUSL admission requirements; or
- An equivalent or higher qualification acceptable to the Senate of The Open University of Sri Lanka.

Course Fee
According to the OUSL programme information currently published online, the tuition fee for the 30-credit Diploma in Food Science programme is LKR 102,600. Additional registration, facility, library and laboratory fees may also apply.
