The salary scale will be applicable from 01 January 2027, subject to the provisions mentioned in Public Administration Circular No. 10/2025.
Who Can Apply?
This is a limited recruitment examination. It is not open to all members of the public.
Applications may be submitted by eligible officers serving in posts belonging to the Primary Non-Skilled and Primary Semi-Skilled service categories in:
- National Schools
- National Colleges of Education
- Teachers’ Colleges
- Teacher Centres
- Other institutions under the General Education Division
Educational Qualifications
Applicants must have passed the G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination in six subjects in one sitting, including credit passes in:
- Mother Tongue
- Mathematics
- One other subject
Service Experience
Applicants must have completed at least five years of active and satisfactory service in a permanent post belonging to the relevant Primary Service Category by the closing date.
- The applicant must hold a permanent appointment and must have been confirmed in that appointment.
- Temporary, casual, contract and training periods will not be counted as qualifying service.
- A satisfactory period of service must have been completed during the five years immediately preceding the closing date.
- The required Efficiency Bar Examination must have been completed by the relevant date.
- Applicants must be physically and mentally fit to serve in any part of Sri Lanka.

Applicants must obtain at least 40 marks in each written examination paper to qualify.
Main Duties
- Maintaining the discipline, safety and welfare of residential students.
- Assisting the Hostel Warden with hostel administration.
- Supervising food preparation, purchasing and distribution.
- Maintaining records relating to food and hostel operations.
- Ensuring cleanliness of hostels, kitchens and related facilities.
- Attending to sick students and protecting government and student property.
- Monitoring students entering and leaving the hostel.
- Performing other duties assigned by the head of the institution.
